24th November 2008

Radio Redhill's Chairman, Nigel Gray, was presented with gifts and well wishes from station members at the autumn member's meeting after being the station's Chairman for twenty-five years. The members had arranged a collection without Nigel knowing, and co founder Andrew Fowler presented these to Nigel at the meeting.

Other members also received long service awards. Vice Chairman, Alan Stidder and Secretary, Sue Mason-Brown, were both presented with thirty year certificates. Station Engineer, Ian Wilson, received his award for fifteen year’s service.

Nicky Quantick, who takes on the arduous task of the station’s mail out every month, has completed twenty years service.

Colin Hastings and Carolyn Howie have been with Radio Redhill for ten years.


Head of Fundraising, Dave Francis, was presented with his five year certificate and Madeleine Goumas has also clocked five years.

23rd November 2008

BBC Newsreader Nicholas Owen was the special guest in Holmwood Ward at the East Surrey Hospital on Sunday. He presented gifts to patient Mrs Freda Smith who had passed a musical milestone when she selected the 200,000th musical item to be played on Radio Redhill’s patients’ request programme.

Freda, who lives in Warlingham, chose the Daniel O’Donnell number "Footsteps". When she was interviewed at her bedside she said "I’m overwhelmed and so delighted to meet Nicholas Owen".
Freda received a special certificate and gift vouchers from Nicholas and discovered that she had much in common with the popular broadcaster. They both love the classical music of Rachmaninov.

Radio Redhill provides highlights from the 2008 South of England Show. Our reporters, Nigel Gray, Dave King, Nick Hutchings, Ian Wilson and Charlotte Freeman, met and interviewed many interesting people to bring a flavour of the event back to the listeners in the East Surrey Hospital.

21st April 2008

The Mayor of Reigate and Banstead, Cllr Mrs Dorothy Ross-Tomlin, visited Radio Redhill. In an hour long programme, Nigel Gray found out about her history, her year as Mayor and played some of her favourite music.

The programme was recorded as a joint venture with Redstone FM.

Radio Redhill has a successful night at the HBA Awards. This year's awards were held on Leeds, and Radio Redhill received awards in no fewer than five categories. The major award this time was our entry for ‘Male Presenter of the Year,’ which won Radio Redhill presenter Dave Francis a Silver Award. Dave presents the weekday afternoon show as well as other programmes including his weekly Smooth 60, which features jazz, funk and soul every Monday evening.

The station received a Highly Commended award in the Special Event category for Irwyn Davies’s feature about the Bluebell Railway’s Southern at War event, and another in the Speech Package category for the report on the Variety Club Golf Day by Dave Francis.

Commended awards were won by the Redhill Country programme with Nigel Gray in the Specialised Music category and for our entry for Station of the Year.





2nd February 2008

Dave Francis and partner Helen Backway successfully complete their sponsored skydive. They jumped 10,000 feet to raise money for Demelza who provide Hospice Care for Children.
